KILIS /HATAY, Turkey (AA) - Two rockets fired from Syria landed in the Turkish border provinces of Kilis and Hatay Tuesday, according to a security source and regional governor's office.

The rocket attack came after Turkey launched an operation in Syria’s Afrin against the PKK/KCK/PYD-YPG and Daesh terrorist groups Saturday.

"A rocket projectile launched from Syria struck our province. There is no loss of lives and injuries. Our teams will soon launch on site investigation," Kilis Governor's Office said in a statement.

A rocket fired by terrorists struck Ataturk neighborhood in Kilis at around 4.10 p.m. (1310GMT), according to a security source.

It damaged some buildings and cars in the area, the source, who asked not to be named due to restrictions on talking to the media, said.

After the attack, the Turkish Armed Forces fired Firtina (storm) howitzers at terrorists.

Separately, a rocket launched from Syria's Afrin landed in Turkey’s southern Reyhanli district in the Hatay province.

According to an Anadolu Agency correspondent at the scene, the rocket hit a yard in the Mustafa Kemal neighborhood of Reyhanli.

Police, fire and health teams were dispatched to the area.

No casualties were reported.

Also, two more rockets fired by PYD/PKK terrorist from Afrin landed in a vacant land in Hassa district of Hatay province, according to Anadolu Agency correspondent in the scene.

No casualties were reported.

Turkey on Saturday launched Operation Olive Branch to clear PYD/PKK and Daesh terrorists from Afrin, northwestern Syria.

According to the military, the operation aims to establish security and stability along Turkish borders and the region as well as protect Syrians from terrorist oppression and cruelty.

The operation is being carried out under the framework of Turkey's rights based on international law, UN Security Council resolutions, its self-defense rights under the UN charter, and respect for Syria's territorial integrity, it said.

The military has also said it is putting "utmost importance" on not harming any civilians.

Afrin has been a major hideout for the PYD/PKK since July 2012, when the Assad regime in Syria left the city to the terror group without putting up a fight.
