WASHINGTON (A) – At least one person was killed Thursday when a speeding vehicle struck a group of pedestrians in the heart of New York City.
The New York Fire Department said 19 other victims were injured in the "motor vehicle accident”.
Photographs of the area appear to show a maroon sedan propped up on two wheels on the corner of West 45th St. and Broadway in the popular Times Square area.
An Anadolu Agency correspondent at the scene said at least one bloodied victim was carried into an ambulance on a stretcher.
One male is in custody, the New York Police Department said.
"It is believed to be an isolated incident, it remains under investigation," the department added on Twitter.
