UPDATE - 6 Egyptian police personnel killed in Cairo blast

No group has yet claimed responsibility for blast, which left 6 police dead and another 3 injured

UPDATES WITH TURKISH FOREIGN MINISTRY'S STATEMENT

CAIRO (AA) – Six security personnel were killed and another three injured on Friday when an improvised explosive device went off near two security checkpoints in western Cairo, according to the Interior Ministry.

"The explosion occurred outside the Al-Salaam Mosque on Al-Haram Street near two security checkpoints," read a ministry statement.

According to the statement, two police officers, a policeman and three police conscripts were killed, while another three conscripts were injured.

Turkish Foreign Ministry condemned the attack and offered condolences to Egyptian families of the victims over their losses.

In the statement released on Friday, the ministry offered Turkey’s deepest condolences to the Egyptian nation.

No group has yet claimed responsibility for Friday’s bombing.

Egypt has been roiled by turmoil since the army ousted Mohamed Morsi, the country’s first freely-elected president, in a 2013 military coup.
