KABUL, Afghanistan (AA) - At least three Czech NATO troops were killed on Sunday in an apparent Taliban suicide attack in eastern Afghanistan.

Vahida Shahkar, spokesperson for the provincial governor's office, said the incident occurred in Hilary in the Parvan province.

In a statement, NATO said the attack during a patrol also wounded an American and two Afghan National Army soldiers.

"My thoughts and prayers are with the families and friends of our fallen and wounded service members, and our injured Afghan brothers and their families," said Gen. John Nicholson, commander of U.S. Forces in Afghanistan and the NATO-led Resolute Support Mission (RSM).

On Twitter, Czech Interior Minister Jan Hamacek said: "The Czech Republic has suffered a terrible loss. Our three soldiers were killed in a suicide attack while on a foot patrol with Afghan forces in Parwan province. My thoughts remain with the families and friends of our fallen soldiers.”

The Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack.
