UPDATE - Bomb attacks kill 9 in Iraq

BAGHDAD (AA) – At least nine people were killed in a spate of bomb attacks in Iraq on Wednesday, according to police sources.

A device exploded at a fish market in Yusufiya, south of Baghdad, killing three people and injuring four others, police officer Nezhan al-Khedr told Anadolu Agency.

One civilian was killed and another injured in a bomb blast in al-Dora district, south of Baghdad, he said.

Three other people were also killed and seven injured when a roadside bomb went off amid a group of construction workers in Baghdad’s western Al-Washash district.

Meanwhile, two policemen were killed and four others injured in a double bomb explosion in Baquba in eastern Iraq, according to police captain Habib al-Shammari.

There was no claim of responsibility for Wednesday's attacks.

The Iraqi authorities, however, typically blame the attacks, which often target civilian areas, on the Daesh terrorist group, which captured large swathes of territory in northern and western Iraq in mid-2014.
