ISTANBUL (AA) - Turkey's benchmark stock index dropped by 0.59% to close Wednesday at 102,082.48 points.

Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index started the day at 103,058.70 points. As of closing, it lost 603.63 points from Tuesday's close of 102,686.11 points.

The benchmark index hovered between 101,539.66 and 103,066.33 points during Wednesday's trading.

The total market value of the BIST 100 was around 679 billion Turkish liras ($121.9 billion) by market close, and the daily trading volume was 6.6 billion Turkish liras ($1.12 billion).

On the third transaction day of the week, 28 stocks on the index rose, 65 were down, and seven were flat compared to the previous close.

The top-listed companies by market value were Turkish conglomerate Koc Holding and private lenders Garanti and Akbank.

The highest trading volumes were posted by national flag carrier Turkish Airlines, Garanti and state lender Halkbank.

The day's best performer was tractor producer Turk Traktor, with its shares up 17.91%, while stocks of major appliances manufacturer Arcelik dropped most, down 4.64%.

The price of one ounce of gold was around $1,431.20 by market close, up from $1,428.50 at the previous close, according to Borsa Istanbul's Precious Metals and Diamond Markets data.

The price of Brent crude oil was around $64.90 per barrel as of 6 p.m. (1500GMT) Wednesday.
