ISTANBUL (AA) - Turkey's benchmark stock index closed the day down 0.47% on Monday to reach 95,286.18 points.

Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index started the day at 99,406.95 points. As of closing, it lost 447.99 points from last week's close of 95,734.17 points.

The benchmark index hovered between 95,099.40 and 96,732.20 points during Monday's trading.

The total market value of the BIST 100 was around 634 billion Turkish liras ($114.5 billion) by market close, and the daily trading volume was 5.4 billion Turkish liras ($959.7 million).

On the first transaction day of the week, 44 stocks on the index rose, 45 were down, and 11 were flat compared to the previous close.

The top-listed companies by market value were Turkish conglomerate Koc Holding and private lenders Garanti and Akbank.

The highest trading volumes were posted by Garanti, national flag carrier Turkish Airlines, and Akbank.

The day's best performer was private lender ICBC Turkey Bank, with its shares up 6.33%, while stocks of Adese Alisveris Merkezleri, which operates in the wholesale and retail trade sector, dropped the most, down 5.88%.

The price of one ounce of gold was around $1,496.00 by market close, down from $1,512.10 at the previous close, according to data from Borsa Istanbul's Precious Metals and Diamond Markets.

The price of Brent crude oil was around $59.40 per barrel as of 6 p.m. (1500GMT) Monday.
