UPDATE - Borsa Istanbul down over 1% at close

ISTANBUL (AA) - Turkey's benchmark stock index dropped by 1.01% to close Monday at 98,673.28 points.

Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index started the day at 99,406.95 points. As of closing, it lost 1,006.16 points from the last week's close of 99,679.44 points.

The benchmark index hovered between 98,504.23 and 99,980.56 points during Monday's trading.

The total market value of the BIST 100 was around 655.8 billion Turkish liras ($117.5 billion) by market close, and the daily trading volume was 5.1 billion Turkish liras ($914.2 million).

On the first transaction day of the week, 27 stocks on the index rose, 64 were down, and nine were flat compared to the previous close.

The top-listed companies by market value were Turkish conglomerate Koc Holding and private lenders Garanti and Akbank.

The highest trading volumes were posted by Garanti, national flag carrier Turkish Airlines and state lender Vakifbank.

The day's best performer was conglomerate Metro Holding, with its shares up 7.55%, while stocks of another conglomerate Tekfen dropped most, down 4.46%.

The price of one ounce of gold was around $1,460.00 by market close, up from $1,438.00 at the previous close, according to Borsa Istanbul's Precious Metals and Diamond Markets data.

The price of Brent crude oil was around $60.50 per barrel as of 6 p.m. (1500GMT) Monday.
