UPDATE - Borsa Istanbul ends week down on Friday

ANKARA (AA) - Turkey's benchmark stock index ended the week at 1,393.24 points, down 1.65% from the previous close.

After starting Friday at 1,413.18, Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index lost 23.31 points from Thursday's close of 1,416.55 points.

During Friday's trading, the BIST 100 hovered between 1,373.65 points and 1,414.95 points, with 10 stocks on the index rising, 89 down, and one flat from the previous close.

Closing the week with a market value of around 1 trillion Turkish liras ($122.7 billion), the benchmark index posted a daily trading volume of 18.9 billion liras ($2.8 billion).

The highest trading volumes were posted by iron and steel manufacturer Eregli Demir Celik, private lender Garanti BBVA, and iron, steel and coke manufacturer Kardemir Karabuk Demir Celik.

Stocks of canned/frozen goods producer Tat Gida posted the largest rise with 5.53%, while shares of Fenerbahce, a major Istanbul football club, dropped the most, 9.95%.

One ounce of gold was traded for $1,730.50 by market close, down from $1,740.50 at the previous close, according to data from Borsa Istanbul's Precious Metals and Diamond Markets.

The price of Brent crude oil was around $63.23 per barrel as of 6.10 p.m. local time (1510GMT) on Friday.
