UPDATE - Canadian police say one dead, one suspect arrested over multiple shootings 'no longer a threat'

TRENTON, Canada (AA) – Canadian police on Monday said there are several victims, including one death, at "multiple shooting scenes" in British Columbia but that a suspect has been arrested and is "no longer a threat."

However, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police in Langley, British Columbia, are still trying to determine if another shooter is involved and until that is confirmed an emergency alert for the public to stay out of the downtown core will remain in effect.

"We do have a male suspect in custody; however, we are ruling out any other outstanding individuals before we stand the emergency alert down," said Mounted Police Sgt. Rebecca Parslow.

One death has been confirmed in what police now believe was a targeted attack. No further information on the number of victims has been released,

The Mounted Police sent out an emergency alert on Monday morning warning of shootings in the city of about 26,000 people. Langley is located about an hour southeast of Vancouver.

Police said the suspect "is no longer a threat" after they "interacted" with a man with dark hair wearing overalls and a camouflage shirt. He was also linked to a white car. Although the danger passed, the public should continue to exercise caution, police said in a second alert.

"Efforts still being made to confirm only one suspect is involved. Please remain alert and out of the area," read the alert.

No injuries have been reported by the police.
