AZAZ, Syria (AA) - At least one person was killed and 21 others were injured in a car bombing in the opposition-held Azaz town in northern Syria on Wednesday, according to the White Helmets civil defense agency.

The explosion struck near a local hospital in the town, it said.

Rescuers from the White Helmets and the Turkish Humanitarian Relief Foundation (IHH) rushed to the scene of the attack to search for survivors.

Several buildings, including a primary school, were affected by the bombing.

Several hours later, similar attacks were carried out in Cobanbey town, near the Turkish border, and Al-Bab city, leaving one person dead and 16 others injured.

The attacks came on a day when Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced to launch new military operation on east of Euphrates river, northern Syria.

No group has yet claimed responsibility for the attack.

Syria has only just begun to emerge from a devastating conflict that began in 2011 when the Bashar al-Assad regime cracked down on demonstrators with unexpected ferocity.
