Global COVID-19 cases surpass 1.2 million, with over 66,500 deaths

ANKARA (AA) - Health authorities in several Arab countries confirmed new cases and deaths from the novel coronavirus on Sunday.

The Lebanese Health Ministry recorded a new fatality, raising the death toll to 18, while seven people tested positive for the virus, bringing the total to 527.

In Morocco, the Health Ministry said the death toll has risen to 69 after 10 deaths were recorded.

The number of confirmed cases climbed to 961, with another 42 cases recorded, while recoveries reached 70.

In Iraq, health authorities recorded one death, bringing the death toll to 57, and a total of 908 cases after 18 more cases were confirmed.

The Palestinian government, for its part, recorded nine fresh cases, bringing the total to 226, with 12 of them in the blockaded Gaza Strip.

Health authorities in the war-battered Libya recorded another coronavirus case, raising the total to 18, including one death and one recovery.

In Saudi Arabia, the Health Ministry announced five new fatalities, raising the death toll to 34, and recorded 206 fresh cases, bringing the total to 2,385, with 488 recoveries.

Kuwaiti Health Ministry recorded 77 infections, bringing the total number of cases to 556, with 99 recoveries.

Oman's Health Ministry said the country's coronavirus cases climbed to 298 after 21 new cases were recorded.

Oman has also confirmed two deaths from COVID-19, while 61 have recovered so far.

In Syria, the regime's Health Ministry recorded three new cases, bringing the total to 19, and also confirmed two deaths, and two recoveries.

Since appearing in Wuhan, China, last December, the novel coronavirus has spread to at least 183 countries and regions.

Data compiled by the U.S.-based Johns Hopkins University shows worldwide infections surpassed 1.2 million, with over 66,500 deaths.

An excess of 252,600 have recovered from the pandemic so far.
