UPDATE - Death toll climbs to 14 in Istanbul building collapse

14 people rescued from rubble, says Turkish interior minister

UPDATE WITH REMARKS BY HEALTH MINISTER

ANKARA (AA) - The death toll from Wednesday's collapse of a building in Istanbul has risen to 14 after three more bodies were recovered on Friday, a Turkish official said.

Interior Minister Suleyman Soylu told reporters in Istanbul that 14 people had been rescued from the debris of the building.

"Those who lost their loved ones in this incident should rest assured that the responsible will be punished," he said.

On Wednesday, a seven-story apartment block, located in the Kartal district, collapsed while 30 residents were inside. The cause is yet to be known.

A 19-year-old boy, identified as Mert Aydin, was saved from the debris of the building early Friday.

On Thursday, rescue teams saved a 5-year-old girl identified as Azra Havva Tekgoz from the rubble.

Later on the day, Health Minister Fahrettin Koca said 13 people receive treatment at the hospital, including seven in intensive care unit.
