ANKARA (AA) - The death toll climbed to 268 from an earthquake in Indonesia, the local government of Cianjur in West Java province said Tuesday.
“Some 122 bodies have been identified but there are still 151 missing victims,” Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) head Letjen TNI Suharyanto said in a statement.
“Then the data on the displaced people amounted to 58,362 people, 1,083 people were injured, infrastructure damage such as damaged houses totaled 22,198 units,” it said.
Two hospitals are still operating despite being affected by the disaster, it said, adding additional field tents are set up around the hospital.
"Some were referred to hospitals outside Cianjur Regency, 100 patients have been sent to Bandung Hasan Sadikin Hospital," said Suharyanto.
President Joko Widodo visited the affected areas and met with residents. "First of all, on behalf of myself, on behalf of the government, I would like to express my deep condolences, my condolences for the earthquake in Cianjur Regency, West Java Province," he said.
He assured affected families that his government would assist residents whose houses have been damaged.
