ANKARA (AA) - The death toll from Typhoon Hagibis in Japan has risen to 35, local media reported on Sunday.

According to the Kyodo News agency, at least 20 people were still missing, while over 100 people were injured across the country.

"Over 6 million people across Japan's main island of Honshu were advised to evacuate," the report said.

At least 33 landslides and mudflows were reported in nine prefectures, Kyodo said citing the Land, Infrastructure, Transport, and Tourism Ministry.

"Over 110,000 police officers, firefighters, coast guard officials and SDF personnel are currently engaged in rescue operations," Kyodo cited Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo as saying.

Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshihide Suga said that 376,000 homes were without electricity and 14,000 homes had no running water after the typhoon.

Japan's weather agency issued an unprecedented emergency warning for Tokyo and nearby regions over the typhoon, saying heavy rain "with a level of intensity observed only once every few decades" was likely.

The agency issued the highest warning on its one-to-five scale for Tokyo and the prefectures of Gunma, Saitama, Kanagawa, Yamanashi, Nagano, Shizuoka, Niigata, and Fukushima.

As of late Saturday, the typhoon was packing winds of up to 180 kilometers (112 miles) per hour.
