LONDON (AA) - At least one person was killed and nine others injured in an incident in the eastern city of Kuopio in Finland on Monday, according to local media reports.

Police said a "violent incident" happened at the Hermanni shopping center, the YLE news site reported.

“According to current information, the incident in Kuopio occurred at the premises of the Savo vocational school located in the Herman shopping center,” a police statement said.

The college also confirmed that a serious incident occurred on the premises.

Police detained one person by opening fire and several people injured in the incident were taken to a hospital, according to the report. Two of the wounded were seriously injured.

A sword-like knife was used in the attack, eyewitnesses said.

The local hospital was warned about a major incident.
