UPDATE - Football: Gazisehir win playoff, promoted to Super Lig

ANKARA (AA) - Gazisehir Gaziantep defeated Hatayspor on Thursday evening to be promoted to Turkish Super Lig for the first time ever.

The playoff-final match was played in Istanbul, at Fatih Terim Basaksehir Stadium, which saw Gazisehir defeat Hatayspor 5-3 on penalties.

Gazisehir manage to take the lead at the end of the first half, however Hatayspor equalized the match at 1-1 in the 82nd minute.

No side could have the upper hand in the extra time, so the promotion was decided by penalties, in which Gazisehir came on top.

Gazisehir Gaziantep will play in Turkey's Super Lig for the first time ever in their history. They have played in the playoffs in 1st League for 4 times, and even played a final match in the 2010/2011 season.

After the match, Turkey's President Recep Tayyip Erdogan tweeted, congratulating the promoted teams.

Genlerbirligi, Denizlispor and Gazisehir Gaziantep will play in Super Lig next season.
