LONDON (AA) - London Bridge has come under lockdown Friday afternoon amid reports of shots fired.
A statement from Metropolitan Police said that police were called at 1.58 p.m. to a stabbing at premises near to London Bridge.
"At this early stage, the circumstances relating to the incident remain unclear. However, as a precaution, we are currently responding to this incident as though it is terrorist-related," said the statement.
"Emergency services attended, including officers from the Met and City of London Police."
According to the statement, a number of people were stabbed and a man was shot by police at the scene.
An earlier police statement said a man was detained by police.
A woman was reportedly carried away from the scene later, according to eyewitnesses.
Local reports also say at least five people have been injured during the incident.
The bridge and surrounding roads have been cordoned off by the police who have warned people to stay away from the area.
Emergency services, including ambulances, are at the scene.
British Prime Minister Boris Johnson said on the incident: "I’m being kept updated on the incident at London Bridge and want to thank the police and all emergency services for their immediate response."
