WASHINGTON (AA) - Multiple victims are being treated for injuries sustained during a shooting Wednesday at Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida.
Local media outlets reported as many as 20 people may be injured.
Deputies are on the scene and the shooter remains at large, Broward Sheriff's Office said on Twitter.
People are being advised to avoid the area.
Footage of the scene depicts students being escorted out of the high school in small groups amid a heavy police presence.
President Donald Trump is aware of the situation, the White House said in a statement.
Florida congresswoman Frederica Wilson called the shooting "heartbreaking" on Twitter, sending her thoughts and prayers to the victims.
"It is heartbreaking that these violent incidents continue to take place in schools, a place where our children should feel and be the most safe!" she added.
