Officers say they shot, killed male wearing suspected explosives vest in municipality west of Barcelona

ISTANBUL (AA) - Catalan police on Monday said they shot and killed a man wearing a suspected suicide vest in a security operation west of Barcelona.

Local media reports are suggesting the dead man could be 22-year-old Moroccan-born Younes Abouyaaqoub, but this has not been confirmed.

The Catalan authorities have named Abouyaaqoub as the man responsible for killing at least 13 people and injuring more than 100 others by driving a white van into crowds of tourists and locals in a central Barcelona pedestrian area.

Monday's incident took place in Subirats, a municipality west of Barcelona.
