SANAA, Yemen (AA) - At least 33 inmates of a prison camp were killed by a Saudi-led coalition airstrike in Yemeni capital Sanaa on Wednesday, according to a source affiliated with the Houthi militia group, which overran the city in 2014.

"Another 70 prisoners were injured in the attack," the source, who preferred not to be named as he was not authorized to speak to media, told Anadolu Agency.

According to the Houthi-run Al-Masira television channel, the strike targeted a military camp in eastern Sanaa.

According to the broadcaster, roughly 180 government personnel were being held in the Houthi-run camp at the time of the airstrike.

Eyewitnesses said the camp, located in Sanna’s eastern Hayr Habrah district, had been hit by a total of eight separate airstrikes.

There was no immediate comment from the Saudi-led coalition regarding the claim.

Yemen has been dogged by violence and chaos since 2014, when Houthi rebels overran much of the country, including capital Sanaa.

The conflict escalated in 2015 when Saudi Arabia and its Arab allies launched a devastating air campaign aimed at rolling back Houthi gains and shoring up Yemen’s Saudi-backed government.
