UPDATES WITH NUMBER OF WOUNDED

KILIS, Turkey (AA) - A second rocket fired from Syria hit central Kilis in southern Turkey on Thursday, injuring two, according to a security source.

A 70-year-old woman and a six-year-old Syrian child were injured after the rocket struck near Mercidabik Primary School in the central Sarac Mehmet Cavus neighborhood, the source said on condition of anonymity due to restrictions on speaking with the media.

Following the incident, ambulances and police rushed to the scene.

The two injured were taken to Kilis State Hospital by ambulance. Neither was reported to face life-threatening injuries.

Bomb disposal experts carried out a controlled explosion on the rocket, the source added.

The Turkish Armed Forces announced that they responded to the incident by carrying out an air assault with F-16s, neutralizing many Daesh terrorists.

Meanwhile, the number of wounded due to a rocket fired earlier Thursday from northwestern Syria into the center of Kilis rose from six to seven, including a 10-month-old infant.

The Turkish Armed Forces had responded immediately to the attack by shelling Daesh positions with howitzers and multiple rocket launchers, according to military sources, speaking on condition of anonymity due to restrictions on speaking with the media.

According to an Anadolu Agency correspondent at the scene, the projectile struck Tekke Street near the local Sabah market in the neighborhood of Canpolat.

Kilis province lies six kilometers (four miles) from the Syrian border.

Turkey has been under indiscriminate rocket attack from inside Syria since mid-January.

In Kilis alone, the governor said that so far this year more than 20 people have been killed and more than 80 others wounded in such incidents.
