NEW YORK (AA) - Shooting at a synagogue in San Diego, U.S. killed one person leaving three others injured, local police said Saturday.

San Diego Police Department said over its Twitter account that Sheriff Bill Gore "confirms one person was killed and three others were injured" in the shooting.

"Our hearts go out to those affected by this incident," it said.

The police department also informed that a 19-year-old man was arrested in connection with the shooting on the last day of the Jewish Passover.

“We are assisting @SDSheriff with shooting incident at the Chabad of Poway synagogue. One person has been detained. No known threats however in an abundance of caution, we will be providing extra patrol at places of worship,” the police in an earlier Tweet.

Passover, which commemorates the Israelites’ flight from Egypt during the time of Prophet Moses, is considered one of the most important holidays on the Jewish calendar.

This year, Passover began on the evening of April 19 and will end on the evening of April 27.
