PARIS (AA) - A high school student on Wednesday stabbed his Spanish language teacher to death in southwestern France, local media reported.
The 50-year-old teacher got stabbed during the morning class by her 16-year-old student Tom P. in the Saint-Thomas d'Aquin high school in Saint-Jean-de-Luz town, according to broadcaster BFMTV.
The student was immediately arrested.
Education Minister Pap Ndiaye, who earlier offered his condolences on Twitter, visited the school after the attack.
He deplored an "exceptionally serious tragedy which touched France entirely."
Ndiaye also expressed his solidarity with the education community.
"The principal, as well as the teachers, said this is a very quiet school, known for its hard work and its serene school ambiance," the minister said and urged to wait for the results of the judicial investigation.
