NINEVEH, Iraq (AA) - Twenty-three people, including 10 women and five children were killed in suspected Daesh suicide bombings in Mosul’s Old City on Monday, according to an anti-terrorism officer.

Two suspected suicide bombers detonated their explosives among civilians who were trying to escape the Old City, Lt. Ahmed Qasim al-Ubeidi told Anadolu Agency.

Ubeidi said nine people were killed in another rocket attack by suspected Daesh fighters in Mosul.

Also, 15 Iraqi policemen were “mistakenly killed” in an international coalition airstrike in Mosul on Monday, Capt. Jafar at-Tayyar said.

"Fifteen people lost their lives and five others were injured today when an international coalition warplane mistakenly hit federal police in Bab Jadid area of Mosul," at-Tayyar said.

The U.S.-led coalition has so far not commented on the incident.

Iraqi forces, backed by a U.S.-led air coalition, have been battling since last October to dislodge Daesh from the northern city, which they have occupied since June 2014.
