TRIPOLI, Lebanon (AA) – At least five people were killed in multiple suicide bombings in eastern Lebanon near border with war-torn Syria on Monday.

Four bombers blew themselves up at 4:20 am local time in Qaa village in the Bekaa valley, the Lebanese army said in a statement.

“Five people were killed and 15 others injured in the attacks,” the army said.

According to the statement, four military personnel were among those injured in the bombings.

A medical source earlier told Anadolu Agency that six people had been injured in the attacks.

Lebanese army forces have imposed a security cordon around the area following the attacks.

There has been no claim of responsibility for Monday’s attacks.

Qaa is a predominantly Christian village close to border with Syria, which fell into a devastating civil war after the Bashar al-Assad regime cracked down on pro-democracy protests with unexpected ferocity.

Lebanon has been hard-hit by the ongoing conflict in Syria.

Hezbollah, Lebanon’s most powerful group, has fought alongside the Assad regime since the conflict erupted.

The Shia group has not disclosed how many of its members have been killed in Syria but the U.K.-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, reports that more than 1,000 Hezbollah fighters have died in Syria.
