BALIKESIR/ANKARA/ISTANBUL/KONYA (AA) - Turkish authorities Friday issued arrest warrants for 130 people over their alleged links to the Fetullah Terrorist Organization (FETO), the group behind the 2016 defeated coup.

The Chief Prosecutor’s Office in the western Balikesir province said in a statement that warrants were issued for 13 suspects, including a deputy commissioner, a police officer, five teachers, and a correctional officer.

Balikesir Police Department's teams for Anti-Smuggling and Organized Crime launched simultaneous operations across 10 Turkish provinces, including Istanbul, Ankara, Kars, Kocaeli, Sanlıurfa, Hatay, Yozgat, Bursa, and Bingol to arrest the suspects.

In separate, as part of an operation that started in Ankara and covers seven other provinces, police carried out simultaneous operations and arrested a total of 47 out of 60 suspects.

The arrests came after Ankara Chief Prosecutor’s Office issued warrants for a total of 60 suspects, including lawyers, law interns, and dismissed judges over their links to FETO terror group.

In Istanbul, the Chief Prosecutor’s Office issued warrants for 44 suspects in 17 provinces, including 31 active-duty soldiers over their links to the FETO terror group, while 22 of them were arrested.

The suspects are accused of using ByLock, the terror group’s encrypted smartphone messaging app.

Meanwhile, in Turkey’s central province of Konya, prosecutors issued warrants for 13 FETO suspects as the police carried out anti-terror operations in 11 Turkish provinces and arrested 11 suspects.

FETO and its US-based leader Fetullah Gulen orchestrated the defeated coup of July 15, 2016, which left 251 people martyred and nearly 2,200 injured.

Turkey accuses FETO of being behind a long-running campaign to overthrow the state through the infiltration of Turkish institutions, particularly the military, police, and judiciary.
