DIYARBAKIR/OSMANIYE, Turkey (AA) – Three members of the Daesh/ISIS terror group were arrested in separate raids in Turkey, security sources said on Tuesday.

Nihat Turan, a wanted Daesh/ISIS terrorist, was arrested in the southeastern Diyarbakir province.

Turan, said to be in charge of the terror group’s operations in Diyarbakir, was arrested by Turkish police teams in the province’s Kayapinar district, said the sources, requesting anonymity due to restrictions on speaking to the media.

Turan was wanted by Turkish authorities and previously sentenced in absentia to six years and three months in jail, the sources added.

In the southern Osmaniye province, two Syrian nationals were apprehended for having links to Daesh/ISIS, the sources further said.

The arrests were part of an ongoing operation against the terror group and digital materials were also seized, the sources added.

Turkey was one of the first countries to declare Daesh/ISIS as a terror group in 2013.

The country has since been attacked by Daesh/ISIS terrorists multiple times. The terror group has carried out at least 10 suicide bombings, seven bomb attacks, and four armed attacks, killing 315 people and injuring hundreds more.

In response, Turkey launched anti-terror operations at home and abroad to prevent further attacks.
