UPDATE - Turkey detains 4 wanted Daesh/ISIS suspects

Russian nationals intercepted along Turkish-Syrian border were wanted by Interpol

NEW DECK; UPDATES WITH DECISION TO DEPORT

By Izzet Mazi

KILIS, Turkey (AA) - Four Russian nationals sought by Interpol for alleged links to the Daesh/ISIS terror group were detained Wednesday in southeastern Turkey, according to a security source.

Acting on intelligence that the women suspects would illegally enter Turkey from Syria, anti-terror teams of the Kilis provincial gendarmerie command launched an operation in coordination with Kilis prosecutors, said the source, who asked not to be named due to restrictions on speaking to the media.

The suspects were caught at the Syrian border in the village of Arpakesmez while trying to enter Turkey along with eight children.

The suspects were taken to the provincial migration office to be deported for Interpol proceedings.

Turkey was among the first countries to list Daesh/ISIS as a terror group in 2013.

The country has since been hit by the group numerous times in at least 10 suicide attacks, seven bombings, and four armed attacks, in which 315 people have been killed and hundreds others injured.

In response, Turkey launched military and police operations at home and abroad to prevent further terror attacks.
