UPDATE - Turkey's benchmark stock index ends week down

BIST 100 index falls 744.41 points from previous close, USD/TRY exchange rate stands around 5.45

ANKARA (AA) - Turkey's benchmark stock index ended the week down 0.73 percent to close at 101,538.28 points on Friday.

Starting the day at 102,337.33 points, Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index fell 744.41 points from the previous close.

On a weekly basis, the benchmark index posted 1.67 percent decline, as it has surged around 11.2 percent since the beginning of this year.

During Friday's trading, the BIST 100 peaked at 102,463.66 points while its daily low was 100,873.61 points -- 26 stocks on the index rose, 67 fell, and seven were flat compared to the previous close.

The index posted a daily trade volume of 6.22 billion Turkish liras ($1.14 billion), closing the week with a market value of around 668 billion Turkish liras ($123 billion).

By market capitalization, the leading companies of the BIST 100 were Turkish conglomerate Koc Holding, private lender Garanti Bankasi, and energy giant Tupras.

The highest trade volumes were recorded in shares of Turkey's national flag carrier Turkish Airlines, Garanti Bankasi, and electronic appliances manufacturer Vestel.

Stocks of Vestel (VESTL) were the top gainers with a 13.87 percent hike and shares of interest-free lender Albaraka Turk (ALBRK) did the worst, losing 8.14 percent.

One ounce of gold was sold for $1,294.00 at the daily close in Borsa Istanbul's Precious Metals and Diamond Markets, versus $1,288.50 at the previous close.

With a day range of $64.02 to $66.10, the price of Brent oil was around $64.26 per barrel as of 6.15 p.m. local time (1515GMT) on Friday.

At the beginning of 2019, the price of Brent oil was around $53 per barrel.
