UPDATE - Turkey's Borsa Istanbul closes Thursday with new records

BIST 100 gains 22.66 points, or 1.22%, from previous close

ANKARA (AA) – Turkey's benchmark stock index ended with gains on Thursday to hit another record closing of 1,880.06 points, while it hit a new intraday all-time high of 1,882.61 points during the session.

Starting the day at 1,865.04 points, Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index gained 22.66 points, or 1.22%, from the previous close of 1,857.40 points.

The index's lowest value during the day was 1,864.14 points, while its daily high was 1,882.61 points.

The total market value of the BIST 100 was over 1.5 trillion Turkish liras ($114 billion) by market close, with a daily trading volume of approximately 29.3 billion Turkish liras ($2.2 billion).

While 71 stocks on the index rose, 27 fell during the day, and two remained unchanged compared to Wednesday's close.

The highest trading volumes were posted by iron and steel producer Kardemir, national flag carrier Turkish Airlines, and private lender Garanti BBVA.

Pipe and tube producer Erbosan was the best performer with its shares up 10%, while stocks of ceramic wall and floor tile manufacturing company QUA Granite saw the sharpest drop – 2.91%.

One ounce of gold traded for $1,775.20 by market close, down from $1,783.20 at the previous close, according to data from Borsa Istanbul's Precious Metals and Diamond Markets.

The price of Brent crude oil was down 0.77% to $68.34 per barrel as of 6.31 p.m. local time (1531GMT).
