UPDATE - Turkey's Borsa Istanbul down 0.42% at Thursday's close

ANKARA (AA) – Turkey's benchmark stock index closed at 1,418.03 points on Thursday, down 0.42% from the previous close.

Starting the day at 1,428.66 points, Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index lost 5.94 points from Wednesday's close of 1,423.97 points.

The index's lowest value during the day was 1,412.78 points, while its daily high was 1,434.74 points.

The total market value of the BIST 100 was over 1.07 trillion Turkish liras ($127 billion) by market close, with a daily trading volume of more than 12 billion Turkish liras ($1.42 billion).

A total of 23 stocks on the index rose, 69 fell, and eight remained unchanged compared to Wednesday's close.

The highest trading volumes were posted by private lender Garanti BBVA, Turkey's national flag carrier Turkish Airlines, and gold miner Koza Altin.

Shares of electricity company Esenboga performed the best, up 4.8%, while stocks of RTA Laboratories, operating in biology and health, dropped the most, 4.49%.

One ounce of gold traded for $1,779.50 by market close, down from $1,790.50 at the previous close, according to data from Borsa Istanbul's Precious Metals and Diamond Markets.

The price of Brent crude oil was around $75.15 per barrel with a 0.4% loss as of 6.45 p.m. local time (1545GMT).
