UPDATE - Turkey's Borsa Istanbul down 0.94% at close

ISTANBUL (AA) - Turkey's benchmark stock index closed Monday at 98,695.44 points, down 0.94%.

Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index started the week at 98,106.02 points, dropping 939.34 points from Friday's close of 99,634.78 points.

The benchmark index hovered between 97,890.96 and 99,100.17 points during Monday's trading.

The total market value of the BIST 100 was around 657.2 billion Turkish liras ($117.3 billion) by market close, and the daily trading volume was 6.55 billion Turkish liras ($1.14 billion).

On the first transaction day of the week, 28 stocks on the index rose, 63 were down, and nine were flat compared to the previous close.

The top-listed companies by market value were Turkish conglomerate Koc Holding and private lenders Garanti and Akbank.

The highest trading volumes were posted by Garanti, national flag carrier Turkish Airlines, and state lender Halkbank.

Shares of Coca Cola Icecek were the top gainers -- up 4.57% -- and stocks of conglomerate Verusa Holding dropped the most, 6.78%.

The price of one ounce of gold was around $1,404.95 by market close, down from $1,411.00 at last week's close, according to Borsa Istanbul's Precious Metals and Diamond Markets data.

The price of Brent crude oil was around $64.60 per barrel as of 6 p.m. (1500GMT) Monday.
