UPDATE - Turkey's Borsa Istanbul down at close

ANKARA (AA) - Turkey's benchmark stock index closed the day at 109,637.08 points on Monday, down 0.35% from the previous close.

Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index started the week at 110,331.85 points. As of the daily close, it decreased 384.75 points from Friday's close of 110,021.83 points.

During the day, the index's lowest level was 110,156.59 points, while the highest was 111,042.82 points.

The total market value of the BIST 100 was around 786 billion Turkish liras ($116 billion) by market close, with a daily trading volume of 13 billion Turkish liras ($1.9 billion).

Shares of private lender Garanti BBVA, real estate investment trust Emlak Konut and national flag carrier Turkish Airlines recorded the highest trading volumes on Monday.

Stocks of whole sale trade company Bizim Magazalari showed the best performance -- up 10% -- as stocks of carton producer Kartonsan did the worst with a 3.95% drop.

The price of one ounce of gold was $1,693.50 by market close, up from $1,688.00 at the previous close, according to data from Borsa Istanbul's Precious Metals and Diamond Markets.

The price of Brent oil was $40.95 per barrel as of 6 p.m. local time (1500GMT) on Monday.
