BIST 100 index slips 1.69 pct, dropping nearly 1,732.98 points from previous close

UPDATE WITH DAILY FIGURES FOR STOCKS AND SECTORS

ANKARA (AA) - Turkey's benchmark stock index closed Monday down 1.69 percent at 100,866.24 points with a trading volume of around 4.9 billion Turkish liras ($1.15 billion).

Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index ended the day with a 1,732.98-point drop from Friday's close of 102,794.16 points, while it opened the day at 102,575.19 points, down 0.02 percent.

The benchmark index hovered between 100,599.05 points and 102,759.76 points, while 15 stocks on the index were on the rise and 77 on the decline compared to the previous close.

The total market value of listed shares on the BIST 100 was around 818 billion Turkish liras ($192 billion) at the close, while the banking and holding sector indices lost 1.67 percent and 1.49 percent, respectively.

Among all sectors, the leasing factoring sector index was the best performer, rising 1.29 percent, and the basic metal index saw the biggest drop, declining 19.98 percent.

Stocks of the conglomerate Dogan Holding were the top gainers of the day, up 4.30 percent, while shares of events organizer Flap Kongre Toplanti Hizmetleri, suffered the most, falling 19.98 percent.

The BIST 100's most-traded listed companies were national flag carrier Turkish Airlines, private lender Garanti, iron/steel producer Kardemir, state lender Halkbank and gold company Koza Altin.

The USD/TRY exchange stood at 4.2630 as of 5 p.m. local time (1400GMT) Monday, compared with 4.2470 at Friday's close.

The euro/lira exchange rate also stood at 5.0790 by market close, versus 5.0680 at the previous close, while the British pound/lira exchange rate rose to 5.7840 Turkish liras, compared with 5.7750 at last week's close.

The BIST Gold Exchange index fell 0.05 percent at close. In Borsa Istanbul's Precious Metals and Diamond Markets, one ounce of gold traded for $1,313.00 as of 4.30 p.m. local time (1330GMT) Monday, compared with $1,314.00 at Friday's close.

As of 5.30 p.m. local time (1430GMT), the price of Brent oil stood at $75.78 per barrel on the first transaction day's closing, compared with $74.87 at the end of Friday.
