BIST 100 decreases over 800 points compared to Tuesday's close

ISTANBUL (AA) - Turkey's benchmark stock index dropped by 0.84% to close Wednesday at 99,363.32 points.

Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index started the day at 100,452.79 points, while it lost 837.65 points from Tuesday's close of 100,200.97 points.

The benchmark index hovered between 99,142.66 and 100,500.83 points during Wednesday's trading.

The total market value of the BIST 100 was around 663 billion Turkish liras ($117 billion) by market close, and the daily trading volume was 6.5 billion Turkish liras ($1.16 billion).

On the third transaction day of the week, 23 stocks on the index rose, 74 were down, and three were flat compared to the previous close.

The top-listed companies by market value were Turkish conglomerate Koc Holding and private lenders Garanti and Akbank.

The highest trading volumes were posted by national flag carrier Turkish Airlines, Garanti, and Akbank.

Shares of aviation company Pegasus Airlines increased most, up 4.50%, while stocks of private lender ICBC Turkey Bank was the worst performer, with its shares down 19.88%.

On Tuesday, the index also topped the 100,000-point mark for the first time since March 26.

The price of one ounce of gold was around $1,418.50 by market close, up from $1,391.80 Tuesday's close, according to Borsa Istanbul's Precious Metals and Diamond Markets data.

The price of Brent crude oil was around $62.90 per barrel as of 6 p.m. (1500GMT) Tuesday.
