UPDATE - Turkey’s Borsa Istanbul down at Thursday's close

ANKARA (AA) – Turkey’s benchmark stock index closed at 1,414.15 points on Thursday, down by 1.2% from the previous close.

Starting the day at 1,423 points, Borsa Istanbul’s BIST 100 index lost 17.16 points from the previous close of 1,431.31 points.

The index's lowest value during the day was 1,413.58 points, while its daily high was 1,429.23 points.

The total market value of the BIST 100 was just below 1 trillion Turkish liras (over $116.5 billion) by market close, with a daily trading volume of 14.2 billion Turkish liras ($1.64 billion).

On the fourth transaction day of the week, 18 stocks on the index rose, 80 fell and two were flat compared to Wednesday.

The highest trading volumes were posted by national flag carrier Turkish Airlines (THYAO), private lender Garanti BBVA (GARAN) and real estate investment trust Emlak Konut (EKGYO).

Apparel producer Mavi (MAVI) was the best performer with its shares up 6.54%, while stocks of conglomerate Bera Holding (BERA) saw the sharpest drop of 10%.

The price of one ounce of gold was $1,798 by market close, down from $1,857.40 at the previous close, according to data from Borsa Istanbul’s Precious Metals and Diamond Markets.

The price of Brent crude oil was around $72.64 per barrel as of 6.55 p.m. local time (1555GMT).
