UPDATE - Turkey's Borsa Istanbul down at Wednesday's close

ISTANBUL (AA) – Turkey’s benchmark stock index closed at 1,453.30 points on Wednesday, down 0.86% from the previous close.

Starting the midweek at 1,465.28 points, Borsa Istanbul’s BIST 100 index lost 12.59 points from the previous close of 1,465.89 points.

The index’s lowest value during the day was 1,451.92 points, while its daily high was 1,471.43 points.

The total market value of the BIST 100 was around 1.09 trillion Turkish liras ($130 billion) by market close, with a daily trading volume of 14.08 billion Turkish liras ($1.68 billion).

On the third transaction day of the week, 21 stocks on the index rose, 74 fell, and five were flat compared to Tuesday's close.

The highest trading volumes were posted by flag carrier Turkish Airlines, private lender Garanti BBVA, and iron/steel producer Kardemir.

Conglomerate Net Holding was the best performer, with its shares up 6.59%, while stocks of ENKA, active in industry and construction fields, saw the sharpest drop, down 2.76%.

The price of one ounce of gold was $1,795.90 by market close, down from $1,807 at Wednesday's close.

The price of Brent crude oil was around $70.70 per barrel as of 6.20 p.m. local time (1520GMT).
