BIST 100 lost over 2,300 points compared to Thursday's close

ISTANBUL (AA) - Turkey's benchmark stock index closed the week at 97,098.34 points, decreasing rapidly by 2.32%.

Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index started Friday at 99,460.70 points. As of closing, it lost 2,308.1 points from Thursday's close of 99,406.44 points.

The index, which reached over 100,000 points level last week, fluctuated between 96,270.98 and 99,726.46 points during the current week.

The total market value of the BIST 100 was around 646.6 billion Turkish liras ($114.1 billion) by market close, and the daily trading volume was 6.85 billion Turkish liras ($1.2 billion).

On the last transaction day of the week, six stocks on the index rose, 89 were down, and five were flat compared to the previous close.

The top-listed companies -- by market value -- were Turkish conglomerate Koc Holding and private lenders Garanti and Akbank.

Garanti, national flag carrier Turkish Airlines, and oil producer Petkim posted the day's highest trading volumes.

Friday's best performer was conglomerate Ittifak Holding, with its shares up 2.06%, while stocks of petrochemical producer Hektas saw the biggest drop, falling 8.74%.

Borsa Istanbul will be closed for transactions on the next Monday due to July 15 Democracy and National Unity Day.

The price of one ounce of gold was around $1,406.00 by market close, down from $1,418.40 at the previous close, according to Borsa Istanbul's Precious Metals and Diamond Markets data.

The price of Brent crude oil was around $66.75 per barrel as of 6 p.m. (1500GMT) Friday.
