UPDATE - Turkey's Borsa Istanbul flat at close

ISTANBUL (AA) - Turkey's benchmark stock index closed Monday at 97,101.30 points with a drop of 0.05%.

Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index started the day at 95,648.94 points. As of closing, it lost 47.74 points from the last week's close of 97,149.04 points.

The benchmark index hovered between 95,648.94 and 97,448.05 points during Monday's trading.

The total market value of the BIST 100 was around 646.4 billion Turkish liras ($112.3 billion) by market close, and the daily trading volume was 5.8 billion Turkish liras ($1 billion).

On the first transaction day of the week, 44 stocks on the index rose, 39 were down, and 17 were flat compared to the previous close.

The top-listed companies by market value were Turkish conglomerate Koc Holding and private lenders Garanti and Akbank.

The highest trading volumes were posted by national flag carrier Turkish Airlines, Garanti and state lender Halkbank.

The day's best performer was energy company Ipek, with its shares up 5.31%, while stocks of Parsan Makina, operating in steel forging and machinery, dropped the most, down 3.22%.

The price of one ounce of gold was around $1,529.00 by market close, up from $1,501.70 at the previous close, according to data from Borsa Istanbul's Precious Metals and Diamond Markets.

The price of Brent crude oil was around $58.50 per barrel as of 6 p.m. (1500GMT) on Monday.
