UPDATE - Turkey's Borsa Istanbul flat at midweek close

ANKARA (AA) - Turkey's benchmark stock index ended Wednesday up 0.03% to close at 94,244.06 points.

After starting the day at 94,006.52 points, Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index climbed 25.36 points from 94,218.70 points at Tuesday's close.

During midweek trading, the BIST 100 hovered between 93,317.07 points and 94,774.36 points -- 33 stocks on the index rose, 59 fell, and eight were flat compared to the previous close.

Closing the day with a market value of 626 billion Turkish liras ($107 billion), the benchmark index posted a daily trading volume of 7.41 billion Turkish liras ($1.26 billion).

By market capitalization, top companies on the index were Turkish conglomerate Koc Holding ($7.54 billion), private lenders Garanti BBVA ($6.12 billion) and Akbank ($5.84 billion).

Shares of Garanti BBVA, national flag carrier Turkish Airlines, and Akbank posted the highest trading volumes on Wednesday -- accounting for around 36% of the benchmark index's total trade volume.

Stocks of Celebi Hava Servisi (CLEBI), which provides integrated ground services at airports, were the top performer -- up 13.13% -- as chemical and paint producer Polisan Holding (POLHO) saw the biggest drop, falling 19.80%.

One ounce of gold was sold for $1,343.70 at the daily close in Borsa Istanbul's Precious Metals and Diamond Markets, versus $1,349.90 at the previous close.

The price of Brent oil was $62.25 per barrel as of 6 p.m. local time (1500GMT) on Wednesday -- with a day range of $61.41 to $62.55.
