UPDATE - Turkey's Borsa Istanbul flat at Monday's close

ANKARA (AA) - Turkey's benchmark stock index closed flat without much change at 1,438.28 points on Monday, down 0.03% from the previous close.

Starting the day at 1,439.75 points, Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index lost 0.44 points from Friday's close of 1,438.72 points.

The index's lowest value during the day was 1,433.75 points, while its daily high was 1,447.96 points.

The total market value of the BIST 100 was almost 1.09 trillion Turkish liras ($129.5 billion) by market close, with a daily trading volume of around 11.6 billion Turkish liras ($1.37 billion).

A total of 39 stocks on the index rose, 57 fell, and four remained unchanged compared to Friday's close.

The highest trading volumes were posted by private lenders Garanti BBVA, Yapi Kredi, and glassmaker Sisecam.

Shares of conglomerate Verusa Holding performed the best, up 6.1%, while stocks of conglomerate Ihlas Holding dropped the most, falling 3.33%.

One ounce of gold traded for $1,789 by market close, down from $1,795 at the previous close, according to data from Borsa Istanbul's Precious Metals and Diamond Markets.

The price of Brent crude oil was around $73.43 per barrel with a 0.7% gain as of 6:52 p.m. local time (1552GMT).
