BIST 100 index up more than 870 points versus Monday's close

ISTANBUL (AA) - Turkey's benchmark stock index climbed 0.86 percent to close at 101,721.05 points on Tuesday.

Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index started the day at 101,465.13 points, gaining 870.63 points from the previous close of 100,850.42 points.

The benchmark index hovered between 100,919.22 and 102,068.65 points during Tuesday's trading.

The total market value of the BIST 100 was around 668.7 billion Turkish liras ($123 billion) by market close and the daily trading volume was 6.2 billion Turkish liras ($1.14 billion).

On the second transaction day of the week, 62 stocks on the index were on the rise, while 33 were on the decline, and five were flat compared to the previous close.

The top listed companies were Turkish conglomerate Koc Holding ($8.4 billion), leading chemical producer Tupras ($6.85 billion), and private lender Garanti ($6.8 billion) by market value.

The highest trading volumes were posted by petrochemical company Petkim, national flag carrier Turkish Airlines, and Garanti.

Shares of the conglomerate Deva were the top gainers -- up 4.65 percent -- and another conglomerate Ihlas dropped most by 7.50 percent.

The U.S. dollar/Turkish lira exchange rate rose to 5.4590 at close, versus Monday's close of 5.4370.

The euro/lira exchange rate increased to 6.1590 at Tuesday's close, versus 6.1180 at the previous close.

One British pound traded for 7.1880 Turkish liras, while the GBP/TRY rate was 7.1280 at close on Monday.

In Borsa Istanbul's Precious Metals and Diamond Markets, the price of one ounce of gold was around $1,296.20 by market close.

The price of Brent crude oil was around $66.85 per barrel as of 6 p.m. (1500GMT) Tuesday.
