UPDATE - Turkey's Borsa Istanbul up 0.88% at Monday's close

ANKARA (AA) – Turkey's benchmark stock index closed at 1,492.93 points on Monday, up 0.88% from the previous close.

Starting the week at 1,471.86 points, Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index gained 13 points from Friday's close of 1,479.93 points.

During Monday's trading, the BIST 100 hovered between 1,470.59 and 1,495.10 points, with 63 stocks on the index rising, 32 down, and five flat from the previous close.

The total market value of the BIST 100 was over 1.2 trillion Turkish liras ($123 billion) by market close, with a daily trading volume of more than 23.5 billion Turkish liras ($2.4 billion).

The highest trading volumes were posted by private lenders Garanti BBVA, polyester producer Sasa, and another private lender Yapi Kredi.

Shares of fertilizer company Gubre Fabrikalari performed the best, up 9.95%, while stocks of Halk GMYO, a real estate investment trust operating under state lender Halkbank, dropped the most, 5.69%.

One ounce of gold traded for $1,801.10 by market close, down from $1,804.10 at the previous close, according to data from Borsa Istanbul's Precious Metals and Diamond Markets.

The price of Brent crude oil was at $85.54 per barrel as of 6.00 p.m. local time (1500GMT).
