BIST 100 earns almost 1,200 points from previous close

ISTANBUL (AA) - Turkey's benchmark stock index closed Thursday at 96,714.48 points with an increase of 0.84%.

Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index started the day at 96,129.69 points. As of closing, it gained 1,192.37 points from the previous close of 95,522.11 points.

The index will be closed on Friday due to the national holiday of Victory Day.

The benchmark index hovered between 95,782.29 and 97,256.74 points during Thursday's trading.

The total market value of the BIST 100 was around 644.7 billion Turkish liras ($111.2 billion) by market close, and the daily trading volume was 6.3 billion Turkish liras ($1.1 billion).

On the last transaction day of the week, 64 stocks on the index rose, 22 were down, and 14 were flat compared to the previous close.

The top-listed companies by market value were Turkish conglomerate Koc Holding and private lenders Garanti and Akbank.

The highest trading volumes were posted by national flag carrier Turkish Airlines, Garanti and defense giant Aselsan.

Shares of energy company Odas recorded the greatest increase, up 8.45%, while mining company Koza Anadolu was the worst performer, with its share down 3.42%.

The price of one ounce of gold was around $1,540.00 by market close, down from $1,542.30 at the previous close, according to data from Borsa Istanbul's Precious Metals and Diamond Markets.

The price of Brent crude oil was around $60.13 per barrel as of 6 p.m. (1500GMT) on Thursday.
