UPDATE - Turkey's Borsa Istanbul up at close

BIST 100 earns over 480 points from previous close, while Turkish lira gains in value against foreign currencies

ISTANBUL (AA) - Turkey's benchmark stock index closed the day at 98,826.11 points with a rise of 0.49% on Tuesday.

Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index started the day at 98,313.05 points. As of closing, it gained 483.21 points from the previous close of 98,342.90 points.

The benchmark index hovered between 97,957.32 and 99,475.15 points during Tuesday's trading.

The total market value of the BIST 100 was around 658.9 billion Turkish liras ($113.5 billion) by market close, and the daily trading volume was 7.9 billion Turkish liras ($1.4 billion).

On the second transaction day of the week, 66 stocks on the index rose, 25 were down, and nine were flat compared to the previous close.

The top-listed companies by market value were Turkish conglomerate Koc Holding and private lenders Garanti and Akbank.

The highest trading volumes were posted by Garanti, national flag carrier Turkish Airlines and defense giant Aselsan.

Shares of casting manufacturer Cemas Dokum recorded the greatest increase, up 20%, while aviation company Pegasus Airlines was the worst performer, with its share down 6.09%.

The price of one ounce of gold was around $1,532.00 by market close, according to data from Borsa Istanbul's Precious Metals and Diamond Markets.

The price of Brent crude oil was around $57.65 per barrel as of 6 p.m. (1500GMT) on Tuesday.
