UPDATE - Turkey's Borsa Istanbul up at closing session

ISTANBUL (AA) - Turkey's benchmark stock index closed the day at 112,175.19 points on Monday, up 0.9% from the previous close.

Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index started the week at 111,479.29 points. As of the daily close, it earned 998.44 points from Friday's close of 111,176.75 points.

During Monday's trading, the index hovered between 111,266.18 points and 112,177.84 points.

The total market value of the BIST 100 was around 764.1 billion Turkish liras ($129.2 billion) by market close, with a daily trading volume of 10.96 billion Turkish lira ($1.84 billion).

On the first transaction day of the week, 73 stocks on the index rose, 21 were down, and six were flat compared to Friday.

The highest trading volumes were posted by energy company Ipek, mining firm Koza Anadolu and national flag carrier Turkish Airlines.

Real estate investment trust Ihlas Gayrimenkul was the best performer, with its shares up 16.49%, while Ipek dropped the most, down 6.09%.

The price of one ounce of gold was around $1,484 by market close, up from $1,477 at the previous close, according to data from Borsa Istanbul's Precious Metals and Diamond Markets.

The price of Brent crude oil was around $66 per barrel as of 6 p.m. (1500GMT) on Monday.
