UPDATE - Turkey’s Borsa Istanbul up at Thursday’s close

ISTANBUL (AA) – Turkey’s benchmark stock index closed at 1,456.68 points on Thursday, up 0.52% from the previous close.

Starting the day at 1,453.24 points, Borsa Istanbul’s BIST 100 index climbed 7.51 points from the previous close of 1,449.17 points.

The index’s lowest value during the day was 1,449.64 points, while its daily high was 1,461.97 points.

The total market value of the BIST 100 was around 1.02 trillion Turkish liras (over $119.65 billion) by market close, with a daily trading volume of 16.26 billion Turkish liras ($1.9 billion).

On the fourth transaction day of the week, 53 stocks on the index rose, 45 fell, and two were same compared to Wednesday.

The highest trading volumes were posted by gold miner Koza Altin, private lender Garanti BBVA and flag carrier Turkish Airlines.

Sports club Fenerbahce was the best performer, with its shares up 9.99%, while stocks of fertilizer supplier Bagfas saw the sharpest drop of 4.44%.

The price of one ounce of gold was $1,881.10 by market close, up from $1,877 at the previous close, according to data from Borsa Istanbul’s Precious Metals and Diamond Markets.

The price of Brent crude oil was around $72.50 per barrel as of 6.20 p.m. local time (1520GMT).
