UPDATE - Turkey's Borsa Istanbul up at Tuesday's close

ANKARA (AA) - Turkey's benchmark stock index closed at 1,437.46 points on Tuesday, up 0.34% from the previous close.

After starting the day at 1,429.51 points, Borsa Istanbul’s BIST 100 index gained 4.85 points from Monday's close of 1,432.61 points.

The index's lowest value during the day was 1,426.47 points, while its daily high was 1,441.81 points.

The total market value of the BIST 100 was 1.08 trillion Turkish liras ($125 billion) by market close, with a daily trading volume of 14.9 billion Turkish liras ($1.7 billion).

A total of 43 stocks on the index rose, 53 fell, and four remained unchanged compared to Monday's close.

The highest trading volumes were posted by private lender Garanti BBVA, iron and steel producer Eregli, and glass maker Sise Cam.

Turkish retail chain BIM was the best performer of the day, with its shares up 5.96%, while stocks of automotive tire producer Brisa did the worst, slipping 6.56%.

One ounce of gold traded for $1,731.20 by market close, down from $1,749.05 at the previous close, according to data from Borsa Istanbul's Precious Metals and Diamond Markets.

The price of Brent crude oil was around $70.97 per barrel as of 6:31 p.m. local time (1531GMT).
