UPDATE - Turkey's Borsa Istanbul up at weekly close

ISTANBUL (AA) - Turkey's benchmark stock index closed the week at 109,835.47 points on Friday, up 0.62% from the previous close.

Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index started the day at 108,201.50 points. As of the daily close, it earned 680.06 points from Thursday's close of 109,155.41 points.

During the day, the index's lowest level was 107,832.96 points, while the highest was 110,127.41 points.

The total market value of the BIST 100 was around 788.2 billion Turkish liras ($116.2 billion) by market close, with a daily trading volume of 15.56 billion Turkish liras ($2.28 billion).

On the last transaction day of the week, 66 stocks on the index rose, 28 were down, and six were flat compared to Thursday.

The highest trading volumes were posted by national flag carrier Turkish Airlines, defense giant Aselsan, and private lender Garanti.

Auto tire producer Brisa was the best performer, with its shares up 10%, while conglomerate Global Yatirim Holding dropped the most, losing 4.34%.

The price of one ounce of gold was $1,736.15 by market close, up from $1,730 at the previous close, according to data from Borsa Istanbul's Precious Metals and Diamond Markets.

The price of Brent crude oil was around $38.50 per barrel as of 6 p.m. (1500GMT) on Friday.
